Robbins has always loved music and started singing at competitions when she was 10 years old. “It covers aging, long marriages, sending women into battle and the stages of life.” “It covers various things,” Robbins said. 12 and features nine songs that Robbins began recording two years ago. The album titled, 80 Where Late the Song Birds Sing, came out Nov. Balancing concentric sequences and space age synth riffs atop an irresistible breakbeat and bubbling bassline, the British producer finds a sensuous sweet-spot between fellow Growing Bin affiliates Krakatau and Singu.Sidney country singer-songwriter Emma Robbins has put out her first solo album at the age of 80, after hanging up her hat for decades. From there we go sublime, soaring skywards with a ten minute triumph from Hugh Mane. Underpinned by primal percussion and a restrained groove, the track twists and turns between a trio of ineffable motifs, eternal combinations to the catacombs of Abusir. Melancholic Germans Die Fische met in Cairo for the first time, and ‘Conversation Of Everyday Lovers’ could be the theme for that great city. The second side slinks into motion with the deep beauty and sincere spoken word of Frank Suchland’s ’Schnee’, a subtle body in a cocoon of reverb which takes Sade’s ‘I Never Thought I’d See The Day’ to another level of placidness. The synthesist hit the studio with friends Karsten Raecke and Andreas Schneider in 86, coalescing crystalline electronics and gentle guitar into tender chord progressions suited for sun bathing beside the Sea of Tranquility. The A-side ends with the unbridled optimism of Kosmische maverick Hardy Kukuk. Taken from the soundtrack to a TV drama filmed in Mali, this digital homage to African rhythm shimmies in step with New Age dancers from Mkwaju Ensemble and Louis Crelier. This Growing Bin favourite from their ’93-95’ LP sounds right at home beside the majestic melodies and spheric bass of Matthias Raue’s ‘Brücke am schwarzen Fluss 2’. A more meditative magic flows through the A2, a smooth blend of fusion guitar, softly syncopated drums and counterpoint keys from one time art-rockers Inandout. A witch’s brew spiced with a hint of Durian and the early bird, this 1990 composition could be the blueprint for the Teutonic trance dancers beloved by the Salon set. ‘Coffee’ comes right after cocoa in the bin’s headquarter, though start your morning with One Tongue and be prepared for a different kind of day. A decade on and the Growing Bin is a safe haven for those exquisite sounds crowded out of the mainstream, the rare birds with the most striking song. Even in the most crowded urban environment, a solitary tree soon becomes a nest, and Basso’s fostered an abundant garden in his Hamburg hometown. When a person uses the PPP Fast Lane to submit their loan application, the entire process happens seamlessly on the back end. Even though they are non-employers and they pay themselves, they are eligible,” says Cory Capoccia, Womply President and YPO member in San Francisco and Park City. “Most people, if they are a sole proprietor or independent contractor, may not recognize that they are eligible for the paycheck protection program. Congress intended for PPP to reach small businesses, but less than 3% of all previous funding went to businesses with one or zero employees during 2020. The entire program is set to expire on March 31, 2021. Now through March 9, 2021, the SBA will only accept and approve first or second PPP loan applications from applicants with fewer than 20 employees. Currently, the SBA is focused exclusively on low- to middle-income (LMI) companies. All are eligible for the PPP loan, which is offered through the Small Business Administration (SBA). If the applicant can check these boxes, they can proceed to apply for their first draw of funding, their second draw of funding, and apply for loan forgiveness - all at one time through the PPP Fast Lane.Įligible businesses include nonprofits, veteran’s organizations, tribal concerns, self-employed individuals, sole proprietorships and independent contractors. bank account that is accessible online access to a PDF version of your 2019 tax filing and have not previously received a PPP or Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL). The process to get this loan could not be easier - especially if the applicant did not receive funding during the first PPP rollout in 2020. Recent federal legislation has made USD285 billion available to restart PPP. For sole proprietors, independent contractors and self-employed individuals in the United States, now is the time to complete an application to get Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans up to a maximum of USD41,666. City Safety looks out for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals warning the driver if a collision is imminent. Safety has always been a priority for Volvo and even the entry-level XC40 comes with the Radar Based Active Safety suite. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s the same 9-inch touchscreen setup found in the XC90, S90, V90 CC, and the XC60. Unlike other manufacturers, Volvo has not equipped the XC40 with a downgraded version of its Sensus infotainment system. It comes with heated seats as well, but its functionality in India is debatable. Noteworthy features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, power operated tail gate, Park Pilot Assist, and a 13-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system. There’s just so much kit offered as standard that the only way to do justice to it was to dedicate an entire section of the review to it. Volvo has a habit of loading its products to the brim with features and the XC40 is no different. This one’s clearly meant to be driven rather than being driven around in. However, there is ample headroom and legroom and rear seat occupants get dedicated aircon vents as well. For starters, the seat back is a bit too upright, and I found the cushioning to be on the firmer side. The rear seat experience, however, isn’t the XC40’s strong suit. They’re electrically adjustable and the driver’s seat also gets memory function. The front seats a generous and fairly comfortable. The Volvo XC40 offers space for 4-5 with 460 L of boot space. Customers looking to add something flashier than an all-black interior trim can spec their Volvo XC40 in a black and lava red combo. In the R-Design spec, the cabin gets leather/nubuck upholstery, steering wheel and gear selector wrapper in perforated leather along with aluminium dashboard inlays. There’s even a nifty trashcan placed just ahead of the front centre armrest. Storage spaces are aplenty in the Volvo XC40’s cabin. There’s a fully digital and customisable instrument console, which also displays warnings coming in via the Radar Based Active Safety package. Narrow, vertically stacked aircon vents flank the screen. What’s it like on the inside?Ī 9-inch touchscreen for Volvo’s Sensus infotainment setup dominates the centre console. The Volvo XC40 blends quintessential Volvo design features and unique styling elements of its own with a conventional SUV silhouette. They do not follow the small, medium, large pattern some rival brands tend to do. What I like about Volvo’s design philosophy is that its cars, despite being instantly recognisable as Volvos, have their own unique identity. Customers will get a choice of three colour options – Crystal White, Bursting Blue, and Fusion Red (pictured). This version adds sporty touches in the form of a gloss black front grille and front and rear lower bumper sections, black roof and ORVMs, dual integrated exhaust pipes and 18-inch diamond cut 5-spoke alloy wheels. ‘R DESIGN’ lettering is present on the boot lid and the C-pillar. Volvo will offer the XC40 only in the R-Design trim, at least initially. ‘Volvo’ lettering is spread across the centre of the boot lid placed in an S90-like inset. Another signature Volvo touch is the upright tail light cluster complementing the strong shoulder line. The rear gets a predominantly black bumper. The nose is vertical and the bonnet is nearly flat, which combine with the almost parallel running roof and window line to give the XC40 a classic SIV profile. They flank an upright grille housing the company’s Iron Mark insignia. Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs make an appearance on the XC40 as well. The Volvo XC40 has arrived in India and I got a chance to sample it before it goes on sale on July 4, 2018. The SUV also managed to bag top honours at the 2018 European Car of the Year awards. It has been received rather well globally with Volvo revealing plans to increase production to meet the high demand. It is the company’s first entry-level luxury crossover and the first vehicle based on the Common Modular Architecture (CMA) platform co-developed by Volvo and its owners Geely. That’s when the Swedish carmaker took the wraps off the Volvo XC40. BMW introduced the X1 in 2009, Audi came out with the Q3 in 2011, Mercedes-Benz has had the GLA since 2014, but until September last year, Volvo had no presence in this segment. Seamless toes keep irritation at bay, and the moderate compression gives the sock a comfortable secure feel without feeling too tight. These calf-high lookers sport structurally modified fibers that pull sweat to the outside of the sock, which bolsters Swiftwick’s reputation as the best moisture-wicking socks on the market. Pros: Extremely comfortable bulk-free cushioning the deep heel cup and high, padded heel tabs keep the sock in place. Not only does that construction add comfort, but it also helps the sock keep its shape on long runs - it really feels like a second skin, making it the best sock for running on our list. The fit is snug and supportive without feeling restrictive, thanks to the rib-band construction. The polyester Drynamics fabric pulls sweat away from the skin and allows it to evaporate, helping prevent blisters and that terrible soggy sock feeling. Ventilation panels around the top vent out sweat and keep the feet from overheating. The cushioning wraps around the toe cap to the top of the toe to provide protective cushioning from the top of the shoe, while seamless toes prevent irritation. Somehow, they pull off feeling extremely cushy without feeling bulky. The cushioning is noticeable as soon as you slip them on, and they feel soft and comfortable all day. We demonstrate that if the Cold Spot is due to an overdensity in the last scattering surface, the localization mechanism offers a feasible explanation for it, thus providing a physical mechanism for the generation of localized non-Gaussianity in the CMB. In this Letter, we address this question by developing a localized version of the inhomogeneous reheating scenario, which postulates the existence of a scalar field able to modify the decay of the inflaton on localized spatial regions only. Planck's non-detection of primordial non-Gaussianity on smaller scales thus suggests the existence of a physical mechanism whereby significant non-Gaussianity is generated on large angular scales only. Among the most prominent and well-tested of these anomalies is the Cold Spot, which constitutes the only significant deviation from Gaussianity in the CMB. The results from Planck, however, also confirm the presence of a number of anomalies in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), whose origin becomes problematic in single-field inflation. Single-field inflation, arguably the simplest and most compelling paradigm for the origin of our Universe, is strongly supported by the recent results of the Planck satellite and the BICEP2 experiment. International Nuclear Information System (INIS) The inflationary origin of the Cold Spot anomaly We also discuss the potential impacts of surface temperature anomalies for the atmosphere, including the North Atlantic Oscillation and European heat waves contrast the behavior of the Atlantic with the extreme warm surface event that occurred in the North Pacific over a similar timescale and consider the possibility that these events represent a response to a change in atmospheric planetary wave forcing. Here, we review the role of air-sea interaction and ocean processes in generating this cold anomaly and place it in a longer-term context. Most notably, a large region of persistently low surface temperatures accompanied by a sharp reduction in ocean heat content was evident in the subpolar gyre from the winter of 2013-2014 to 2016, and the presence of this feature at a time of pervasive warming elsewhere has stimulated considerable debate. It is a good thing to risk one’s comfort and freedom, and ultimately when needed, one’s life, to protect others and resist evil. It is a good thing to defend the people we love and the nation we call home. The poet’s words endure over the centuries because, in their melancholic nobility, they’re true. They translate as “It is sweet and fitting to die for one’s homeland,” or more accurately, “the land of one’s fathers.” * Two thousand years later, the same Latin words are carved in stone by another republic – our own – above an entrance to the Memorial Amphitheater at Washington’s Arlington National Cemetery. – the late Roman Republic of intense national pride, ambition, and territorial expansion. The Roman poet Horace wrote the famous line Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori in the first century B.C. As a result, the violence portrayed in The Pacific is both accurate and appalling in its realism. The Geneva Convention and its “rules of war” were widely ignored. The war in the Pacific had a deeper, purer level of unremitting ferocity, unencumbered by any memory of a commonly held religion or system of ethics, and often made worse by race hatred on both sides. The war in Europe was terrible and devastating, but it was waged in the rubble of a shared Western culture. I’ve seen the Spielberg film and both HBO series several times. More recently, HBO produced The Pacific (2010), a miniseries that followed Marines who fought in the jungles and across the islands of the Pacific. But it can come with a very high, very ugly price tag. Patriotism, properly understood, is a virtue. It wasn’t until Steven Spielberg’s brilliant Saving Private Ryan (1998), followed by the superb HBO miniseries, Band of Brothers (2001), that film found a way to blend the moral necessity of a just war with its bitter cost in suffering and violence. In their cynicism, movies became a kind of reverse image of the patriotic melodramas they replaced. War stories took a darker turn with Korea and Vietnam. I saw men like Bill and Joe reflected in those movies. Moral clarity, personal sacrifice, and a sense of national purpose pervaded that generation of combat films. I grew up in their shadow on a steady 1950s diet of heroic war films made in the wake of V-E and V-J Days. They were good men, very Catholic, and I loved them. Bill joined the army, crewed a tank destroyer, and saw action in Europe. Joe served as a Navy radioman on a submarine in the Pacific. But Bill and his other brother Joe made it to adulthood. Bill’s youngest brother Winnie died of diphtheria in childhood. The family lived half a notch above poverty. His dad worked the high beams in New York City construction. Land for the common was designated in August 1677 and has been used ever since as both a religious and civic center, the location of churches, a school, the town hall, town library, and other government buildings and civic institutions. Little Compton is home to one of only three town commons surviving in Rhode Island the others are in Bristol and Warren. There are about 57 historic cemeteries in the town. Sites of historic interest in Little Compton include the Wilbor House, built in 1692 by Samuel Wilbore and now the home of the Little Compton Historical Society, the Friends Meeting House and Cemetery, and the William Whalley Homestead. Beginning in the late Victorian era, the town became a destination for summer visitors drawn to its beaches and farms seemingly untouched by modernity, and for its relatively cool, maritime climate. All probate and land records prior to 1746 are kept in Taunton and New Bedford, Massachusetts. Setting them off from the area of Old Dartmouth. A Royal commission changed the state border in 1747, and Little Compton along with Tiverton and Bristol became part of Rhode Island. After the "Old Colony" was merged into the Massachusetts Bay Colony to the north, a local colonial representative to the General Court in Boston boasted that all the stone walls in Little Compton would stretch to the State House and back, if laid end to end. In 1682, Sakonnet was incorporated by the Plymouth Colony and was renamed Little Compton, probably in reference to Cullompton, Devon, England. Wilbor House, built in 1692, is now the headquarters of the Little Compton Historical Society and a museum Today, a plaque marks the location on West Main Road. In 1675, Church built a house in Little Compton, just prior to King Philip's War. Among the 29 original proprietors was Colonel Benjamin Church, who would become well known for his role in the late 17th-century conflicts with surrounding Indian tribes, initially the Wampanoags and later, the Narragansetts. With her acquiescence, the new settlers divided the land into standard-sized lots for farms. The ruler of the Native Americans was a female sachem named Awashonks who was friendly to the newcomers and remained so during and after King Phillip's War. The first European settlers were from Duxbury, Massachusetts in the Plymouth Colony, which granted them their charter. The name has been interpreted in a variety of ways including "where the water pours forth". Little Compton was originally inhabited by the Sakonnet Indians and their settlement was called Sakonnet or Saughonet. The population was 3,616 at the 2020 census. Little Compton is a coastal town in Newport County, Rhode Island, bounded on the south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by the Sakonnet River, on the north by the town of Tiverton, and on the east by the town of Westport, Massachusetts. |
